| Your here because you don't know how to use NEWSFEEDS web gateway to usenet. Below you will find everything you need to know about useing our gateway. |
Connect to the Gateway
There are two different ways to connect to the Web Gateway:
01) Type in the address of the Web Gateway WebNews.Newsfeeds.com in your web browser window. This will take you to the login window of the gateway portal where you will enter your Newsfeeds.com username and password.
02) Log into the Newsfeeds Members Area and click on the "Server Info" link. You can then log into the East or West Coast gateway.
Find Groups
Once you have connected to the Web Gateway, you can look for the groups of your interest by typing a part of the group name in the "Find Group" search box. For example, if you are looking for all groups related to the sport football, use football as your search term. This will pull a list of all newsgroups that contain your search term.
To view ALL groups currently hosted on Newsfeeds.com servers, click on the "All groups" link at the bottom of the page. This way you can also view a select number of large and popular newsgroup hierarchies, for example all Microsoft-related groups can be accessed by clicking on the microsoft.* link.
Browse Newsgroups
To browse the messages of the newsgroup you pulled up, click
on the group name. This will display all current articles posted
in that group. Once you're in that window, you can also post
a new message to the group.
View Text Messages
To open a newsgroup message, simply click on its title. The message will then be displayed. Once you're in the message window, you can also reply to the message. To go back to the entire message list, click the Back button on top of the page.
Subscribe to Groups
Once you enter a newsgroup, you are automatically "subscribed" to it. What this means is that the newsgroup is bookmarked for later use, just like you bookmark web links with your browser. The goal of newsgroup subscription is to have a link to the newsgroup displayed next time you log into the Web Gateway, for easy access. This way you don't have to look for your favorite groups every time. To unsubscribe from a group, simply click on the newsgroup name, and once the message list is displayed, click on the Unsubscribe button.
Configure
To access and change your Web Gateway's setup options, such as displayed name or email address, click on the Config button.
Log Out
Simply click on the "Logout" button on top of any page and you will be logged out of the gateway. To log back in, follow step 1 again.
Getting More Out of Usenet
Once you've become familiar with the Web Gateway, we encourage you to try our free newsreaders, News Rover and Ultraleecher. Newsreaders allow you to download all types of binary articles and give you many more options and features, but are a little more difficult to learn. News Rover, however, comes pre-configured to our servers, and we also provide instructions on using it. To learn more about News Rover™, click here. To download your free copy of News Rover, click on the "Software" link within the Member's Area.
